Some of my passion projects

Amplifying the voices that matter, ensuring they're heard clearly and powerfully, even when resources are tight

Working in a non-profit often means making the most of limited resources and I found myself in exactly that position a few years ago. At Aasraa, where I work as Communication Manager, we needed a short video that could capture the immense scope of our work, the complexity of our operations, and the real impact we create every day.

With a tight budget, I reached out to a dear friend, a filmmaker who admired Aasraa’s mission, and they kindly agreed to help at a minimal cost. From scripting and location scouting to coordination and editing, I led the entire production process to bring this story to life for a major event at the NGO. I even convinced a team member to lend their voice for the narration, which added a genuine, heartfelt touch to the final video.

Post-production was done entirely in-house, and seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding. My goal was to strike the perfect balance between visual and verbal storytelling, keeping it authentic, organic, and true to Aasraa’s everyday spirit. In the end, it was a beautiful team effort that showed what can be achieved when creativity, collaboration, and purpose come together, even with limited resources.

Breaking the Mold. A Bold New Take on Aasraa's Annual Report

When I first looked at Aasraa’s previous annual reports, I felt something was missing-the energy, colour, and emotion that truly reflect what Aasraa is as an organisation.

So, when it came time to create the next one, I decided to take a completely fresh approach. Without a design background, I taught myself Adobe Illustrator and set out to reimagine what an annual report could look like. I wanted it to feel alive...bold, colourful, and full of movement, not just a document, but a story worth flipping through.

I experimented with layouts, broke away from traditional structures, and infused the pages with visual storytelling elements that captured both data and emotion. The goal was to make people feel our impact, not just read about it.

The result was something entirely new for our audience... vibrant, dynamic, and unapologetically different. For me, it was more than just a design project; it was a creative leap that blended communication, storytelling, and design in a way that felt deeply rewarding.

The Poetry Behind the Picture

For me, photography and poetry have always been two sides of the same coin, both ways to capture moments, emotions, and stories. At Aasraa, I found the perfect space to bring them together.

Given photographs from our projects, I would reach into the depths of my heart to find the words that could match them... poetry that could carry the meaning, the emotion, and the perspective of the children whose lives we were telling stories about. I would place myself in their shoes, trying to feel what they felt, so that every word resonated with authenticity.

It was the best of both worlds, the visual and the verbal coming together to tell a story that went beyond what either could do alone. These writings, paired with the photographs, are some of the pieces I hold closest to my heart, small windows into moments that mattered, captured through both lens and language.
